“This could be your room, if you wanted it,” Victor says, voice half muffled by the stacks of blankets. Karolina’s only on Earth for a few days and it’s the dead of the New York winter without enough sunlight to keep her warm. Victor put enough blankets over the guest bed she can hardly move, and after how much Victor’s enjoyed her visit, he’s hoping it’ll be heavy enough that she’ll miss her flight into orbit tomorrow.

“Oh, yeah?” she grins back. “You’d let me and Xavin take be your roomies?” Victor groans at the mention of the space wife-husband. “You know I can’t stay here, Xavin says the side effects of your atmosphere to Maj-”

“Yeah, cause Xavin’s got no ulterior motive for taking you away,” he snorts. “You’ll be back next month.”

“June,” she corrects.

He nods sagely, “Two months.”

“In June,” she laughs, adding in softer, serious tones, “I have to be careful. You don’t want me to end up like my parents.” Victor rolls onto his back.

“I don’t know, my mom thought your mom’s performance in ‘The Stars of our Heroes’ was breathtaking.” He glances back to her from the corner of his eyes, the girl’s smile splayed out between them. “Well, the Spanish language voice actress who dubbed your mom’s part.” She shrieks with laughter and tugs a blanket over their heads, poking at Victor’s side until he relents, all right, all right- “Three months?”

“June,” Karolina responds firmly, as much as she can between a snicker, one hand resting over Victor’s hair. They're under enough blankets the only light radiates from her, a friendly universal nightlight, humming.

“I miss it here too. But it’s for the best, and there’s a lot I still need to do to make sure your guys all stay safe.” Victor half scowls, leaning into her touch as she brushes his hair back from his face. “I’m very important in space,” she smiles crookedly. He takes Karolina’s hand from his hair, letting it rest over his chest.

“You’re very important in here too.”

Cheesy, too cheesy! she shrieks and a pillow fight breaks out.
