Victor gets an official S.H.I.E.L.D reprimand for trying to smuggle a mix CD into her cell.

“You would’ve liked it,” he closes, leaning back against the glass. Karolina mills along the other side, dragging her hands against the fireproof walls.

“That’s nice,” she says with forced feeling. “Except Katy Perry is exploitative.” Victor smiles, that’s why he put it on there. The radiation S.H.I.E.L.D pumps into the prison keeps Karolina half the girl he knew; quieter, less murderous, but with the rest of her colors dulled. Victor figures if he pushes enough he can get his friend back, even if he has to pick a old fight to do it.

He can tell she’s standing behind him when the surface heats up and Victor straightens away from it, turning to face her, a stream of color that’s finished pacing.

“Did you find out when The Collector is coming?” she asks.

“Yeah, June,” Victor mumbles, a month infinitely closer, with less promise than the last time they had a similar conversation. “It’s not for sure, though.” Victor rolls his shoulders, glancing back at the cameras. “I mean S.H.I.E.L.D can’t just give somebody up for like, a collection. That wouldn’t happen.”

“You don’t know anything about how humans treat their enemies,” Karolina sniffs because all the gamma rays in the universe can’t bring his sweet friend completely, just dampen what monster she became. Even dulled, she still smiles like a sunset, tracing her hand along the glass that fissures and bubbles but won’t break beneath her touch. “You will.”

“I’m not gonna let it happen-” Victor snaps. “I'll keep him from you and I won't be-”

“You’ve done enough,” she cuts him off with a wave, a signal to raise the output of radiation. “Xavin can do the rest.” Victor’s lips are a thin line as leans back against the glass, arms crossed over his chest. He grimaces as it scalds under his shirt as Karolina resumes pacing, singing ‘California Gurls’ under her breath.
