"They like you more," she observes while they search out the tamer flocks. "They don't trust me." Who would, he thinks and its blood splatters across his hands.

3. Nike looked to his brother for confirmation, tilting his head with a wolfish intensity. He doesn't know this prey, the same way that Akira knows his face but not these mannerisms, or this level of gore. He let too much shock distract him and now he's the only one on the squad still breathing. Akira sputtered for air through the blood in his mouth, squinting through the eye that wasn't pounded back into its socket. The smell of burnt flesh is the only hint of the battle they missed.

"Another traitor," Sora explained, distracted by the helicopters on the horizon. "Udou Akira." Akira wanted to ask if thats all he gets because he took the Regalia, or because he sided with Kaito, but Nike chose that moment to slam the brick into his knees.

4. Kaito says you can go to prison, or you can come back to work with me. He had room to be generous, because they just sent Ren Fa back to China. When Akira finds out, Kaito holds him down and grinds the stub of the cigarette into his arm. It feels like her nails clutching through his skin, ripping him away from his former life and into the cage with her.

"She was using you," he reminds the snarling beast trapped in a headlock. Akira wants to say 'So are you', but Kaito lights two more cigarettes and he loses his nerve.
