CHARLIE AND TAMAKI (p. 1)
Andrew's always some comfort, but Warren won't let them be alone together and is really just one more snide comment about the fucking wood from Charlie breaking Mears' jaw. Being with Kennit is a usual comfort, but this isn't exactly a usual situation. It's like viewing Akira's dead body opened up this quiet, piecing hot memory he held for all this time. It's happening again, his mind screamed before sliding to that comfortable, rage induced black. It's happening again and you still can't stop it.
It's why he can't see Neil for awhile.
Haruhi's kind enough to abdicate the bed to them for the night, even though it feels like Charlie will never sleep. He can no more sleep than forget the space where Akira's face used to be, or the bloody lake that hung over his chest. 'I'm sorry about your friend' Tamaki says when he opens the door. Charlie has no idea how they get that news all the way in the safe zone. Nothing's ever really safe, his cyncism pushes back. Tamaki holds his head in his lap and strokes his hair. He can't imagine a person that would have got on less with Tamaki, but the blond acts like he and Udou could have been best friends, like he was a saint between all of the hand breaking and drug taking.
Tamaki falls asleep eventually, cuddled so close Charlie feels like he's the one giving the comfort now. Face nuzzled into his collarbone, Tamaki mumbles, "I promise I won't go anywhere." Charlie thinks he'll protect his friends for real this time, but he doesn't even realize Tamaki and Haruhi are missing until she sends the tape.
When they get back to Kennit's, he had Tamaki start drinking early, in an effort to keep him from running down the halls to Lyra's room. Haruhi's resting there after dinner, and the meager idea of being separated from her throws this dark frustration over Tamaki's features. Charlie keeps them apart partially to see that unique expression, and partially to save Lyra a headache. Tamaki hasn't eaten either, even though Andrew prepared a special feast to celebrate their return. It's not much of a celebration; Two civilians didn't die, but Vilma's loose again.
Charlie has to keep drinking, because each time Tamaki isn't fretting over Haruhi (she ate plenty, now asleep), he's wearing the lost expression from Cordelia's video.
Andrew recognized the lens right away ("Is Jonathan using my camera..") before they caught on to what Cordelia was showing them, what her demands were. She's such a drama whore, Warren grumbles and leaves the room. Andrew rewinds, mumbling something about Jonathan again. It's the same order each time they view it. The two for Vilma. Charlie was too shocked to hear it the first time, but when Cordelia points the gun at the back of Tamaki's head, she says "Two for one isn't really fair for me, so don't keep my waiting." He hits the VCR so hard his knuckles explode with blood and the tape is lodged there forever.
Kennit was against the deal- if Charlie was so concerned about the safety of these civilians, he should have take precautions, like with Neil. You have no one to blame but yourself.
"Exactly," Charlie hisses and shakes, not sure if it's from nerves or the sheer strength of going against his Captain. "So it's my job to fix this."
When they exchange Tamaki and Haruhi for Vilma, Cordelia blows Charlie a kiss. He reconsiders not being ready to kill her and almost blows her head off. Vilma's too damn fast. Tamaki fainted.
CHARLIE AND TAMAKI (p. 2)
"I already talked to Kennit," he goes on, detecting the slur in his own voice. "You guys will live here. Lyra cou-could use an extra hand. And you were always wandering places you weren’t supposta. supposed to go." Tamaki shoots him a grateful smile, so bright against the fake night sky that Charlie has to put down his glass fast or he'll drop it.
"Thank you for saving me," is what Tamaki begins to say, but only gets so far as the second word before he's crushed against the window frame, Charlie pressing their lips together. Tamaki's hands falter and cup over Charlie's cheeks, trying to ease the other boy back a little, to give him room to breath, too keep Charlie from bruising his lips. He won't budge. He slides his tongue between Tamaki's lips and grins at the shocked gasp, the wiry squirm against him.
He's light like a girl and for a second Charlie's forgotten who he's got trapped underneath him when they hit the bed. Less like a girl, really, but like a tiny, frightened bird, twisting his wings under the other boy's hands. Each time Charlie looks at him he tries to find something other than confusion and fear over that face. It's starting to dissolve now, replaced with a firm red blush and eyes wide with inexperience and anticipation.
"Charlie," he manages when the kisses halts. He's too accommodating, helping Charlie pry him out of his shirt. "Charlie, I should go-" It the end, he stops asking to leave (he didn't mean it anyway, he's such a little tease, that's how the hosts work, you know). He promised he wasn't going to go anywhere, and Charlie isn't sure of himself enough to let Tamaki out of his sight yet.
