Title: a million green counties from here
Fandom: [livejournal.com profile] indesolution, au revolution-verse.
characters: cordelia chase, akira udou, others.

She always figured there'd be more time in Babylon, because she had a lot less visions here than she did in LA. But thanks to Charlie and Kennit's routine of violence and terror, Cordelia winds up having four or five visions a day.

Cox doesn't tell her anything she didn't expect, and they both look at the charts of brain activity rather than each other.

"I know you explained what's going on up there in your noggin in your magic terms," he began, crossing and uncrossing his arms over his chest. "But keep in mind while some people consider magic the intimately close cousin of science, I gotta disagree all up over that one." When Cordelia stared blankly, he added in a less mocking tone- but not by much, "It means we’ll do more tests."

"No," Cordelia says and dumps the results in her bag (they'll go through the shredder before Angel gets to the office tomorrow). "They look pretty familiar." It isn't that important. Since Petrelli died they've been busy, so she's prepared to devote the rest of her time towards saving this place. Hey, it's pretty shitty- but she got a second chance here, even if only for a little while.

Akira turns on Agito again and no one is particularly surprised. The kid's third personality ("Now that’s just stupid" Warren critiqued) made an appearance at the end, but it didn't change the power imbalance. It just meant that when Ikki and the others arrived, there was a tiny broken body no one recognized.

Charlie breezes through the room, fresh and flushed from working things through with Knox. Akira's been there for a while, judging from the way Agito's blood has dried over the couch.

"You still waiting to be forgiven?" Akira asks, basking in the same afterglow.

Charlie clicks his tongue against the back of his teeth. "You still don't get it."

They've worked out a sort of safe haven in the dome for the normal people. For all the original creators' talk of equality, this new authority knows some people have no place in a warzone. Not everyone necessarily agrees with this, however. So far there was a gas scare and various other terrorist actions- but Haruhi and Tamaki work their hardest to live quietly.

Tamaki wakes her up in the middle of the night crying, or other times promising to protect her. She reacts the same way each time, her arms glued to her side, Tamaki's ever-reaching grip over her shoulders. Sometimes he goes back to his room, sometimes he sleeps on the farthest side of her bed. They've gone from wishing the Hosbu will join them, to hoping their friends never see this place. Neither of them talk about going home.

Azula stages a coup, and Hibari- who won't pick a side- beats her for bringing the fight to school grounds. Her chest caves in and she dies in the hospital, so frightened of death that her lightning short circuits Cox's equipment.

While Sano's fingers gouge into his neck, Spitfire hopes his expression doesn't look too bored. For the direct intent of his friend’s attack, his mind’s wandering. It's been a couple weeks since he last saw Kazu- they separated in the haze of smoke inhalation and a pause where there should have been a kiss. Instead Spitfire told the boy he had nothing left to teach him. After all, the videos he'd made for Kazu before his first death were destroyed when their apartment building burnt down. It was another way to protect the heir. Spitfire knew there was something wrong with Charlie's self-indulged revolution even if the rest of Genesis saw it differently. There's no sky for us anymore, he had told Simca. She must've sent Sano.

He thought being killed by a friend wouldn't hurt as much the second time around, but it does. When his fingers gingerly reach for the arm that's choking him, Sano snaps off his jaw.

She has too many visions now to know who's dying and who's killing at this point. In the end, though, she recognizes the vision of Angelus and waits for him to come to her. Eventually Jonathan arrives instead and explains how the vampire died yesterday.

The thought occurs to her to visit Anya, but the blood vessels around her eyes burst from crying and it was embarrassing enough that Jonathan saw. She gets the crossbow from the office and visits Warren instead. Once she runs out of ammo she tries to break his face open with the blunt instrument. Her arms ache and the blood is making her grip slippery- but Warren keeps taunting her. It's all the same worthless grudge talk about how he did it to kill the slayer. She gets that, it's always been about Buffy.

When they throw her out of Kennit's manor, Jonathan stands awkwardly over her. She pushed a hug away a couple times. It's cruel, but this is his fault too. When she wakes up four days later, Jonathan's not around. She dreamt a more mature course of action for her revenge. Maybe it was actually a vision of herself in future, but the pressure headaches are so intense she can't separate pain from the rest of her life.

Sylar broke into the apartment one afternoon and after an hour and a half conversation, he wound up deciding he didn't want Cordelia's power after all. When she'd stopped shaking and covered up the bruise on her cheek, she figured it would be a pretty impressive story if there was anyone left to hear it.

Allen can't hold Charlie for long- the older boy outweighs him and his lack of the Innocence's power makes him tire unimaginably fast. Losing their abilities ate away at Rinali’s legs. Rhode hasn't been in his dreams for months- all he sees at night are Rinali's eyes before he brought the blade down. Kanda left early in the deterioration, and Ravi died long before Kennit successfully blocked them out. Allen is tired and weaker, but his cursed arm is still the same. It doesn't even ache.

"I don't have much time," he breathes, holding Charlie's sneer steady with his eyes. "Just answer one question-" Charlie tilts his head leisurely to the side, observing Allen like a parent admonishing a child. He starts his low tirade of atheism and how him and the pirate are becoming the gods of this world.

Allen shakes his head and slides away from the mastermind. "No, that doesn't matter anymore. Please, he's with you, right? What building is Kanda in?" Charlie points him in the wrong direction and several meters away Allen slips into a final fight with Nero.

Sylar crumples between them.

"Wait. Seriously- Parkman?" Akira's incredulous voice echoes across the tiled floors, half buried under the echo of the first gunshot. There's enough disbelief and malicious teasing in his eyes that Parkman squeezes the trigger again and again, and then one last time for himself.

She takes the ring because there's nothing left. There's nobody else either, not since Angel died and even that was about a hundred times of impossible. It’s not that she doesn’t like Jonathan! It just doesn't look right, shimmering on a hand half covered in burns, but she doesn't fit in with this group anyway.

Her fingers intertwined with Jonathan she thinks about the distance they can put between themselves and Babylon. Cracking his nose open, she had told Warren after Angel died that it wasn't supposed to be like this- she was the one who was supposed to die.

She holds Jonathan back when Charlie and the Captain step through. Maybe it’s faulty and they’re suffocating, maybe the little girl is playing a prank and they’ll reappear on the other side of town. Maybe the place they’re going to isn’t any better than the mess they made of this world.

“Change of plans!” she says promptly after Warren and Andrew step through. “Take me to the beach.” Jonathan’s looking at her with wide eyes and silent loyalty for his friends, but Cordelia thinks she deserves some selfishness. “Take me as far from them as possible.” When Jonathan scans her face for more of an explanation, Cordelia ducks in to kiss him. She pushes him through and follows, trying to remember if there were any beaches in Star Wars.
